May 10 Schedule

BREAKFAST PROGRAM

This Tuesday breakfast session will be open to all bushCON participants prior to the day’s workshops.

The Numad Group

Morning Fill Up: bushCON Edition
GUEST: JEN FORD REEDY, PRESIDENT OF THE BUSH FOUNDATION

The Depot - Pavilion

Morning Fill Up is a 24-hour blitz of conversations and collaborations with good people doing good things creatively and collaboratively.

Founded by The Numad Group and co-sponsored by The Bush Foundation, the monthly series brings regional and national guests to The Garage coworking space in Rapid City to inspire western South Dakota to put their creative energies into action.

Now, Morning Fill Up is coming to bushCON in the exact same format: A conversation, not a presentation. A dialogue, not a pitch. Two chairs, a table and a community of interested people.

Morning Fill Up Co-Founder and Bush Fellow Matt Ehlman will sit down with Bush Foundation President Jennifer Ford Reedy to learn more about Jen, and her personal priorities and vision for the future, in a Charlie Rose-style interview.

Then Jen will turn the tables and ask the questions, discovering with Matt and co-founder Ted Stephens III, the “how and why” of this series, and what it could mean for your community.

EVENING PROGRAM

bushCON attendees can register at a special rate; instructions will arrive in your registration confirmation email.

Ignite Minneapolis

iGNITE MINNEAPOLIS: 10TH eDITION

The Depot - Pavilion

Ignite is a high-energy evening of 5-minute talks by people who have a compelling idea or story — and the guts to get onstage and share it with a packed theater.

The Ignite format works like this: Each speaker prepares a deck of 20 slides which auto-advance every 15 seconds, giving each speaker 5 minutes to give their talk. The rapid-fire pace of this format often makes for a frenetic delivery, and the variety of topics means the audience is unlikely to ever get bored.

Some talks are serious science, others are pure satire. Attendees come to learn and to be inspired. The motto of Ignite is, "Enlighten us, but make it quick."

Preparing for Action: a Practical Use of Theater for Social Change

The day will include opportunities to practice applying the theory and techniques to the current climate in a variety of environments, from personal growth to organizational change, from responding to the seemingly mundane to responding to ingrained systems of oppression.

Sweet Potato Comfort Pie™ - A Catalyst for Caring & Building Community

Sweet Potato Comfort Pie Initiative

Calvary Lutheran Church - Golden Valley, 7520 Golden Valley Road, Golden Valley, MN 55427

Tasting delicious sweet potato pie, the sacred dessert of black culture, is a good thing indeed, but the real deed in being good starts in the kitchen – making and baking the pies.

Participants will venture into the community of Golden Valley (12 minutes west of downtown Minneapolis) and experience making their own Sweet Potato Comfort Pies™ as a team.

Each person will have their own pie to take and then gift to someone in their respective community. Throughout the day (in between potatoes cooking and pies cooling) participants will engage deeper into understanding the story circle process and how to convene challenging conversations on topics such as race, culture, etc. By the end of the day, an artistic reflective practice will blend into the closing as participants share stories of to whom they are gifting pies.
